New Products for 2010

The International Builders' Show is the largest annual home building show in the world, featuring over miles and miles of the latest and most advanced building products and services ever assembled under one roof. You'll find the newest innovations by leading manufacturers in over 300 home building categories at IBS, which takes place Jan. 19-21 in Las Vegas.

Here is a preview of some of newest products, which have been smartly crafted by top brand companies for today's savvy, environmentally friendly homebuilder:

Get cooking in the kitchen with Jenn-Air Wall Ovens

New Products for 2010

The new Jenn-Air line includes the best performing wall ovens in the industry — with advanced LCD touchpad controls, the most powerful convection elements on the market and new downdraft cooktops available in a unique, duct-free configuration.

The series of wall ovens provides a level of performance far beyond anything Jenn-Air has ever offered. Included are models equipped with a 7-inch color "touch anywhere" control screen, the largest in the industry. The new LCD screen provides easy access to food-specific convection modes, pan and rack suggestions and the option of choosing levels of doneness, from rare to well done.

With a dual-fan convection element rated at 6,800 watts, the new ovens can evenly roast on multiple racks in significantly less time than traditional roasting methods.

The line's duct-free downdraft system is a major advancement in downdraft technology originally introduced by Jenn-Air in the 1960s. The system enables high-rise apartments, condos and other residences that are not able or willing to run ductwork to the outside to take advantage of the flexible placement options and the best performing and quietest ventilation in the industry.

Other new ventilation offerings include a series of powerful, ultra-sleek cooking ventilation systems with glass panels, including a model that can be hung discreetly on a wall, much like a plasma television.

In built-in refrigeration, Jenn-Air is introducing integrated models available in bottom-freezer and side-by-side door options. This includes a 42-inch French door bottom-freezer configuration with the widest refrigerator space available in the market. The line is the broadest built-in refrigeration collection in the industry and the only flush French door bottom mount.

New Broan-NuTone Exhaust Fan Quiet and Energy-Efficient

Broan-NuTone will be featuring the new Broan Ultra Silent Series QTRE080R bathroom ventilation fan, which is easy to install, Energy Star-qualified and costs less than $1 per year to operate.

The fan is part of Broan and NuTone's lineup of Energy-Star products, which includes some 35 different models from the Ultra Silent Series (one of the quietest on the market), recessed fan/lights and heavy-duty models ideal for light commercial installations and offices.

The Ultra Silent Series includes basic bath fans, fan/light/nightlight combinations, humidity sensing fans and humidity sensing fan/light/nightlight combinations.

CraftMaster Green Doors Provide Green Building Benefits

CraftMaster will be displaying its environmentally friendly molded interior doors, which are made with sustainable materials, recycled content and low-VOC primers and adhesives, and they produce low-formaldehyde emissions.

CraftMaster Green Doors are available in all CraftMaster raised panel, molded door designs — from the original six-panel Colonist and four-panel, square-top Coventry, to the two-panel, square-top Carrara; arched-top, two-panel plank Cashal and others.

To complement a wide range of home styles, CMI offers CraftMaster Green Doors with a solid GreenLite fiberboard door core. The rigid, lightweight core provides the heft, weight and sound-deadening properties of a solid wood door, and it is made using wood obtained from forestlands that are certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

DuPont Features New Color Surfaces

DuPont's Zodiaq Terra Collection of kitchen and bath surfacing now comes in licorice, wintergreen, coriander and flax using 25% post consumer recycled glass content.

DuPont Zodiaq can be used in a variety of home applications, including kitchen and bathroom countertops, backsplashes, wet bars, fireplace surrounds, tub decks and tub and shower surrounds. The product is nonporous and when properly cleaned does not promote the growth of mold, mildew or bacteria.

Inspired by the picturesque stratification of clouds and sky at dusk, the scenic intermingling of the hues of rolling farmland and the quaint pebbling of a sandy beach, the DuPont Corian Private Collection has added eight new hues — witch hazel, sandalwood, jasmine, saffron, elderberry, juniper, thyme and rosemary.

The collection's natural palette of browns, rusts, greys, blues and greens was designed to help create environments that refresh, restore and recharge.

Ply Gem Exhibiting Premium Insulated Siding

NAPCO by Ply Gem American Essence Insulated Siding allows builders to be environmentally responsible while ensuring long lasting protection of the home.

Backed by a closed-cell expanded polystyrene foam insulation, the siding blankets the exterior walls of the home with an extra layer of insulation. This puts insulation over wall studs, decreasing thermal transfer, making the home more comfortable and increasing the wall system's R-value by up to 25%.

American Essence can help lower utility bills and can be used to contribute toward meeting the National Green Building Standard.

Like all vinyl siding, American Essence is easy to maintain, eliminating the need to scrape, paint or replace rotten cladding boards. The siding is available in 14 design-inspired colors formulated for consistent color and finish, as well as in four Premium Signature Series colors with extra UV and sun protection for a fade-resistant finish.

Lutron Sensors Save Power by Turning Off the Lights

Lutron Electronics will be featuring three products for 2010— its new Radio Powr Savr, which saves energy by turning off the lights when a room is unoccupied, its eco-timer and the addition of a vacancy sensor for its popular Maestro dimmer:

  • The Radio Powr Savr is a wireless device that can be installed in minutes. The sensor can be placed on the ceiling and a standard light switch can be replaced with a compatible Lutron dimmer or switch, with no wiring to the sensor required.

Using a compatible Lutron dimmer with the sensor allows occupants to automatically turn lights on to a dimmed level rather than to full-on, saving even more energy.

The sensor is especially effective in retrofit applications where traditional wired sensors are difficult to install.
  • Eco-timer enables consumers to save energy by automatically turning a fan or light off after a set period of time. Users can set a countdown time as short as one minute but no longer than 30 minutes. The timer cannot be overridden to remain on, guaranteeing that the fan or lights will always turn off. LED lights on the side of the eco-timer move every five minutes as the time winds down, indicating to the user approximately how much time is remaining.
  • Maestro Dimmer with Occupancy/Vacancy Sensor adds an unobtrusive sensor to the sleek design of the Maestro dimmer. Equipped with Lutron's exclusive XCT technology for detecting fine motion, the sensor ensures that the lights stay on when the room is occupied and are off when the room is not being used, greatly reducing unnecessary energy consumption. Replacing a standard switch with a Maestro dimmer with occupancy sensor can save up to 50% in energy costs, according to the manufacturer.
