How to Give a Home a Welcoming Entrance

by Leah Serra, Contributing Writer for The House Designers®

An entryway sets the tone of a new home build. That first impression is crucial! Potential buyers need to be able to envision themselves greeting loved ones here, or enjoying a sunset on their new home’s front porch. Perfect this all-important and welcoming space by choosing the proper front door system and great accents to go with it!

Therma-Tru Fiber-Classic Mahogany Collection

Let this striking door, a Fiber-Classic® Mahogany Collection™ entry in the new Raven PrismaGuard stain, invite customers into your new build. They may just never want to leave!

The Perfect Front Door

A great front door is the perfect focal point for your front elevation no matter its material or major selling points. One must consider a door choice based on security and value, but they can offer so much more appeal! Add a pop of color to draw a customer to the entrance, the beautifully classic look of wood to warm the front entry, or a system with sidelite, doorlite, and/or transom window accents to allow in plenty of natural light for an inviting foyer.

The location of each home and the front door on it must always be considered. If privacy is needed, choose a textured but solid door for a traditional look. Or, add a sleek door with clean lines for your modern build. In these cases, consider taking advantage of a transom window above or a pair of sidelights with opaque glass. This way, there is no need to miss out on the natural light provided in the entry, while maintaining the necessary or desired level of security and privacy. When building on a large lot with a deep enough setback, take advantage of it! Bring the outdoors in by choosing a door with a large glass accent. Give your build personality by enhancing its entry and drawing buyers' eyes inside!

Fypon QuickPost

Remember, detail is everything. So, bring it all together with accents like this QuickPost and porch brackets.

Accents That Make All the Difference

If your goal is to create a welcoming entry for your home, a great door is key, but don’t stop there! Mouldings, columns, and other accent pieces work alongside that perfect door, and they can further help the home make a statement and define its curb appeal. Using these products together will create the welcoming and attractive entry that customers respond to. It doesn't have to be difficult—you can transform a porch easily with column wraps and matching porch rails. Then, consider elevating the look even further with decorative millwork that matches the architecture. This will help set the tone and create a welcoming ambiance.

Fypon Ashley Balusters

Trim with keystone crossheads over the door and window embellish this home, and intricate Ashley balusters extend style onto the porch. This look is perfect for intricate country designs!

Take advantage of the style and warmth you’ve started at your entry and continue it even into the interior! Depending on the style of the home, add gables to the exterior to keep the roofline interesting. Add plinth blocking throughout the interior to bring the home’s style full circle. With careful planning inside and out, the home’s style will feel completely natural. Customers will enjoy this unified look, and appreciate the warm and welcoming feel of your build.

No matter the style of build you’re creating, Fypon® and Therma-Tru® have what you need and more. With these diverse products, you just can’t go wrong!
