The living room of this symmetrical Southern design has a soaring 2-story ceiling, 2-story Palladian windows and a massive brick corner fireplace. Although part of the living room ceiling is sloped, it provides just enough clearance to slip in an overlooking balcony from the upper level so that both levels are open to each other. By omitting walls and using columns for support instead, most of the main living spaces are visible and open, which allows a view of the circular stairwell from most of the lower level. The kitchen has a window above the sink, a small but well placed serving bar and an abundant amount of storage space in the form of a walk in pantry.
