A carefully thought-out plan can help mitigate the stresses of moving day! We recommend that you start by looking at your blueprints. After you’ve taken inventory of your belongings, draw a general floor plan and mark where everything should go. Then consider printing off some copies and distributing them to your movers and\/or volunteers. This will help get everyone on the same page as they unload all of your items! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might even want to load the truck by rooms to help with the unloading process. For instance, if you load all the ‘Kitchen’ boxes at the same time and then all the ‘Master Bedroom’ ones after that, there will be no confusion as to what goes where, and it’ll be easier to move things in bulk to their final destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have a lot of items going to a single room, think about what can go immediately into a closet or cabinet and what can stay out. For example, many homeowners will set all of their holiday decorations to the side, ready for the attic or a closet. Identifying these types of things will help keep you from unboxing everything unnecessarily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing quite beats watching your dream home get built right in front of you. Being able to walk through the rooms before completion is a fun experience for the whole family. We often see folks moving big, bulky items and boxes into empty space like the garage or bonus, even while the home is still being built. If your builder is ok with this, it can help save tons of time come moving day. Just ensure that your things will be out of the way and protected from any accidental damage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can’t overstate the importance of a moving day schedule. Whether you are moving all by yourself or you have a team at your disposal, schedules are invaluable! Planning who will be doing what, when and where, can help keep folks out of each other’s ways to allow maximum efficiency. And don’t forget to schedule time for breaks and food.
