Many people are searching for a plan without an attached garage.  They want that perfect detached garage to complete that carriage house look.
Most designers try to provide a garage with every plan so many plans are designed to have a garage in the basement of the house.  This is an incredibly efficient use of space.

But it also makes a house plan design perfect, with minor modifications, to be built with a detached garage plan. The drive under design can easily be converted to a full basement or be built on a slab or crawl space foundation.  This option is not something that would show up in a typical search.

Please make sure you expand your search to include the drive under garage field if you want a house plan with a detached garage.  You may find many more options than you were expecting.
