Basement Plans Offer Flexibility

The benefits of choosing a house plan that includes a full basement foundation are endless. You can create a private retreat like a recreation room, media room, home office, wine cellar, second kitchen, wet bar or additional bedrooms. It’s a great way to give your children a fun and flexible place to hang out with their friends, watch movies and store all their toys, games and electronics. If you’re creating a large living space in your basement, be sure to include at least a half bathroom into your basement design and a small kitchen or wet bar. You’ll be glad you did, when the time comes for entertaining and containing your children to one area of the house. A finished basement also adds to the value (in many cases you’re almost doubling your square footage) and efficiency of your new home. In the winter it’s naturally cooler than the rest of your home and in the winter the opposite is true.

Check out some really cool basement floor plans in the latest issue of Dream Designs like this game room and wet bar from the Traverse House Plan:

Flexible & Fun Floor Plan

My husband and I have been looking to buy our first home for over a year now. Uninspired by the selection of existing homes, we finally decided that we would build our own home so that it would be EXACTLY the way we want it to be. Our first step was to find a house plan, so we did what everyone does and popped the word house plan into Google and starting browsing the top three websites.

We’re both 28 and don’t have any children yet, so we wanted to find a house plan that had a flexible floor plan with lots of fun elements like a media room, outdoor living space, pool, office space, bonus rooms and wet bar. Ironically, we both visited The House Designers and signed up for their free weekly e-newsletter called Dream Designs. This week they featured some of their most popular flexible floor plans and my husband and I both fell in love with the same house plan. It was the perfect size — just under 2,100 square feet and had 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths.

This plan is perfect for us! It has a gourmet kitchen (my husband is a chef), a two-sided fireplace from the dining room and living room, a barbeque porch with another fireplace, a media room, a master suite that reminds of the hotel we stayed at on our honeymoon and a second floor bonus room.

What really blew us away was the basement floor plan that had an additional 1,524 square feet featuring a guest suite, oversized media room and game room and tons of storage space. We’re not usually impulsive buyers, but we ordered the house plan and can’t wait for the UPS man to come this week.

The dining room and living room share a double-sided fireplace.

Dream Vacation/Retirement Home

I have been a subscriber to The House Designers Dream Designs for the last 3 years. Every week I look forward to seeing the latest house plans offered by this group of very talented designers and architects. I must confess I never had any intention of building my own home – I just love looking and learning about the latest trends and styles in home design.

I am close to retiring and have renovated practically every room in my home over the years, many changes were based on ideas I’ve gotten from The House Designers, particularly their product ideas section featuring very well-written and informative articles and information.

After looking at the latest issue of Dream Designs featuring some of their newest designs, my husband and I decided that we MUST build this home. Lucky for us we already love our land, which is on the coast of Florida, so we plan on simply knocking down our original home and replacing it with the Brunswick.

All I can say is this is a dream home for us – it has gorgeous window designs so we can enjoy the view of the ocean, especially from the roof deck. Every room is open and flexible – perfectly designed for oceanfront living. The outdoor living room is fantastic with a fireplace and large gathering area – and of course the pool and patio is a must have for the grandkids, not to mention the billiards room.

I’m really big on socializing while I cook, which makes this fabulous kitchen with open living space perfect for entertaining or simply chatting with the family. I must say I can’t remember being this excited about a project. Thank you for your inspiration – I will be sure to send you pictures of when our dream home is completed.

This dazzling home features everything you need for indoor/outdoor living.

Choosing the right flooring

What good timing! When I purchased my house plan last October from The House Designers, I signed up for their weekly e-newsletter called Home Ideas. Every week I get helpful tips about what products I should use when building my new home. This is the first home I’ve ever built and I am so excited, yet overwhelmed by all the decisions I need to make. My house was framed last week and I have been laboring on choosing what flooring I want for each room in my home. I couldn’t believe this week’s Home Ideas was all about choosing the right flooring. I spent my entire day on the Lumber Liquidator’s website ordering my hardwood flooring for EVERY room in my home. I was especially excited about having bamboo flooring in my great room; it’s going to look great with my stone fireplace.

Charming Narrow Lot House Plan

Last spring I purchased a unique piece of land on the lake for a vacation home and I have spent most of my time trying to find the perfect house plan to fit my narrow lot. My builder told me that for the plan to work and for me to have enough outdoor living space I needed a house plan that was 40 feet wide and under. You wouldn’t think this would be so challenging. After spending countless dollars on house plan magazines I decided to look online. Best decision I could have made, since it brought me to your website and a very extensive collection of narrow house plans. I immediately fell in love with The Sunburst (Plan 1160) and was so impressed by all the photographs you had of the house that I could envision my family and I living and decorating our new home. I was so excited to give this to my builder that I purchased the pdf file and was able to email my new house plan in minutes. I can’t wait until April to start building.

The open living room of this charming two-story narrow lot house plan is only one of its best features.[/caption]
