New house plan inspired by Caribbean

Friday, November 20th, 2009

New for November, is the Bahama Breeze house plan, which was inspired by the casual elegant resorts of the Caribbean. This European-style, two-story home was designed with lots of large windows and sliders to capture the outdoors. There’s plenty of curb appeal with its beautiful mahogany and gas lantern entrance, front porch and balcony featuring large decorative columns and double entry doors. The grand room is magnificent with its wood beamed ceiling and staircase. When it comes to entertaining you have a large kitchen with island and open dining space. There are plenty of outdoor living spaces with the enclosed veranda, front and rear porch and balconies.

As for pampering and privacy, the second floor master suite has a see-thru fireplace into the spa-like bath retreat with garden tub and walk-in shower. The ceiling is vaulted with beams and there’s a large 20 ft wide window seat. There’s a wet bar and private access to a home office.

Additional amenities include a wet bar, elevator, exercise room with morning kitchen, 2 laundry rooms, second floor media room, a veranda with retractable screens and much more.

Great Laundry Room Design

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I finally found the perfect house plan on your website, plan 6881. There were lots of things I was looking for in my new home, but a really awesome laundry room was at the top of my list as strange as that may sound. In our first home the laundry room was in the basement and a complete pain to get to. In our second home, the laundry was on the main floor but in a little closet off the kitchen with no storage room. I was looking for a really cool laundry room, just not a space, but a place where I could iron and store items. I’m sick of losing socks and feeling like the maid. We’re breaking ground before the snow comes, and by the beginning of next summer we should be all moved in. I’ll send you pictures of my decked out laundry room when it’s finished!

Exclusive Contemporary Two-Story

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I was looking for a unique mountain house plan so I could finally start building on my Vermont property and came across the Candlewood. It had everything I was looking for and more. I definitely wanted a 2 bedroom house and couldn’t believe this floor plan, which had 3 bedrooms and 3 baths…AND a private master suite on the top floor. My husband and I were so excited to know that we would enjoy our privacy while entertaining family and friends. Other great features to this home are the two-story great room and wrap-a-round deck. And did I mention the master suite has a balcony. When I called to order this plan, I was told that it was an exclusive design to THD and that I would be receiving a $50 discount off the house plan. Thanks THD!!! I’ll send photos when it’s finished.

Customer Falls For Park Place Home Plan

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Our house plans cover many architectural styles but The Park Place is in a class all its own, with its bold lines, unique columns and sweeping staircase this home is rich in character. This large house plan offers many details from the grand salon with a massive fireplace the master bedroom with a private veranda. This home plan offers so much that you really have to see it to truly appreciate it.

That’s exactly what happened last week when, I had a customer who was looking for a manor type plan to build on her 20-acre southern lot. I knew that The Park Place would offer them everything they were looking for – and then some. This plan even comes with an optional basement floor plan to create a home theatre and recreational area, which was important to this family, who had three teenagers and loved to entertain family and friends. My customer loved all the color photos that were available for this luxury plan to assist her in showing all the interior details to her builder. After showing the plan to her family and home builder, she called back and ordered the vellums. I hope when her home is finished that she doesn’t forget to send us her photos so we can post them on our website.

Get Creative With Kitchen Cabinetry

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Today, homes are being designed with open floor plans rather than small individual rooms. You’ll find that cabinetry design is embracing this new trend to create large open living areas by creating cabinetry that has the look of furniture. With more space to be creative, cabinets don’t have to be pushed to the room’s perimeter but can become part of furniture groupings that are a key component to the overall design, functionality and décor of the living space.

This week’s issue of Home Ideas is all about cabinetry – “Cabinets Key Ingredient In Kitchen Design,” “Options For Kitchen Cabinetry” and “Consumers Crave Functionality.” Get inspired our collection of Fabulous Kitchen Floor Plans, which include everything from small beach cottages to sprawling one-story house plans featuring a professional kitchen design.

Couple finds perfect, small house plan

Monday, August 10th, 2009

A frustrated customer called today who had been looking for a small house plan without any luck. She had been trying to talk her husband into moving for over two years, but couldn’t come up with a floor plan that they both could agree on. She needed to keep the square footage under 1,800 square feet and needed a home plan that included an optional bonus room they could build out later and a split bedroom design with a basement. I gave her several house plans to look at but when she saw The Madison House Plan, she knew that was going to be the plan to get her husband to finally move out of their 1978 Cape. I was so happy to hear from Judy two days later ready to purchase and letting me know that finding something that both her and husband could agree on was a small miracle and how she really appreciated the customer service and help.

Latest Trends in Deck Design

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

As homeowners continue to enhance their outdoor living space with outdoor amenities like kitchens, fireplaces, furnished living rooms and spas, the deck is becoming a major design factor, particularly when building a new home.

Since most people spend most of their day at work, school or in their home, they want another place to go and unwind or have fun. That new place is their backyard and what better way to enjoy all the same great amenities you have indoors than to design an outdoor living space on a customized deck.

Here are some of the latest trends in decks that can help you create an exciting backyard retreat:

The biggest trend in decks right now is the increase in square footage. Homeowners that were once satisfied with a 20 x 10 foot deck for a grill and some patio furniture now want a deck design that rivals their homes square footage.

With all the latest products available for outdoor lighting, appliances, fireplaces and pits, homeowners are extending their outdoor living space well past the spring and summer.

Another big trend is creating and outdoor kitchen that has all the amenities of its indoor counterparts like a grill or cooktop surface, cabinets, countertops, refrigerators and sinks. Many of our house plans purchasers are asking for our designers to add an outdoor living space to their floor plans. See some of our latest home plans, which include an outdoor living space and read up on the latest deck designs and products in this week’s issue of Home Ideas.

Proper Kitchen Design

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

A good way to ensure proper kitchen design is to use your present kitchen as a starting point. Do you like where your ovens are located? Is the refrigerator in a user-friendly location that doesn’t cause traffic while you are trying to cook? Would another sink or oven be helpful with food preparation? Is there ample space near a pantry to set down groceries? Where do you plan to prepare vegetables and meats? Is the rubbish drawer conveniently located to discard vegetable and fruit peelings? Is the dishwasher placed for efficient loading and unloading? Does your countertop space adequately allow for appliances and cooking utensils?

Appliances should blend in with other design elements in your kitchen. You can achieve this by having them built into the cabinets or paneled to look like them. Or if you prefer, you can make a statement with a stand-alone, like those made with a decorative vent hood and carved wood ornamentation or a stainless steel refrigerator. Keep in mind where you place your appliances will affect the other design elements in your kitchen. For example, a range or a separate cooktop and oven could change your countertop and cabinet space plans. Remember, the time to make changes is before the plumbing and electrical work is started.
